Drone Laws in Hungary 2021

EU-compatible drone regulations came into effect in Hungary in 2021. If you plan on flying a drone in Hungary it is essential to be familiar with these laws. Since Hungary is part of the European Union (EU), drone regulations formulated by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) will also apply in Hungary in addition to its own set of rules. Read more about the .

Classification of Drones

Hungary classifies into four types based on their weight. Both commercial and recreational drones are subject to strict codes of conduct. However, the legal fees for recreational drone operation may cost little to none. The categories of drones are:

Below 250 g (exempt from regulations).
Between 250 g & 2 kg
Between 2 & 10 kg
Above 10 kg

Regardless of the drone category, every drone operation requires a valid license and insurance in Hungary.

Hungarian Airspace

Drone pilots can only fly their drones in Temporary Designated Airspace. There is no official airspace map released by the government. However, a private organization called created a 3-color scheme flight map for Hungary. The map has divided the country’s airspace into three parts:

Red: Temporary Designated Airspace. The red zones are the temporary zones where drones can be operated with prior permit from the Military Aviation Authority.
Blue: Airport Controlled Zones. Drone pilots must avoid flying in the blue zones, at least not without valid permits.
Green: National Park Zones. These are environment protection zones. Although recreational drone operations may be permitted in the green zones, commercial drone operations will cost 65€ to obtain the license.

How to Obtain a License

To obtain a license to fly your drone, you are required to submit an application to the Military Aviation Authority at least 30 days prior to the flight. The application is generally processed under 3–4 days. Reach out to rpas@nfm.gov.hu for more information. The application must include:

Identity and Contact details of the applicant
Coordinates and radius of the drone operation
Altitude limits of the operation
Date (YYY.MM.DD) and time of the operation
Purpose of the drone operation
Name and phone number of the person who is responsible for air traffic coordination in the required airspace ( An Air Traffic Control Officer)

Costs Involved: Recreational licenses are free of cost while commercial flight permits can cost up to 10€.

General Rules and Drone Insurance

Hungary has fairly simple drone regulations. However, there are some general rules every drone pilot must adhere to at all times:

Steer clear of airports, prioritize manned aircrafts and land your drone if you see one in the vicinity of your flight path.
Fly in visual line of sight and below 120m in daylight
Do not fly from moving vehicles
Be mindful of privacy of individuals while capturing data
Always check for restricted sites, buildings, or airspace

Drone insurance is mandatory for all drone operations in Hungary. Pilots must purchase a third party insurance and submit the details of the insurance to the Military Aviation Authority. Drone insurance in Hungary differs based on the weight class of your drone:

Below 2 kg, be insured for about 10,000€
Between 2 & 10 kg, be insured for about 17,000€
Above 10 kg, be insured for about 33,000€

Storm Drones May Soon Replace Weather Balloons

Drones are rapidly replacing older technologies. From surveying huge swathes of land to delivering cargo; UAVs continue to diversify their applications. For instance, has been functioning in the US, the FAA has approved , and are parachuting medical supplies in Rwanda. Now, scientists are deploying storm drones to forecast weather and predict natural disasters.

Specialized drones that are equipped with sensors to gather weather data are being hailed as an efficient successor to the traditional weather balloons. Drones will help scientists receive real-time weather data which was not possible through traditional methods.

In the US, meteorologists issue a mere 16-minute notice before a . This leaves residents with little time to take shelter. Through the use of drones, meteorologists are hoping to improve the time taken to issue a notice from 16 minutes to 1 hour. Tornadoes in particular form very quickly and require a constant flow of data relating to atmospheric pressure, humidity, and temperature to predict their formation.

How Will Storm Drones Gather Weather Data?

Storm drones aren’t a new innovation. Drones have been used in the past to gather weather data. In fact, the first weather drone was developed by NASA in 1991 called the Perseus. It was designed to fly up to an altitude of 60,000ft and collect data about ozone layer depletion and weather patterns. However, the program reached its end in 2003.

Drone technology has progressed far and wide in the past two decades. It is now possible to develop drones that cost less and are more efficient. Since 2013, meteorological researchers from Oklahoma University have been developing miniature inexpensive drones which can be used to gather and relay real-time data to scientists on the ground. Generally, industrial drones are not waterproof. Moisture, heavy winds, and precipitation can easily damage a drone. To address this issue, students have been designing and building Kevlar-reinforced drones. Kevlar’s strength was best suited to protect the storm drone against strong winds. Materials like graphene which is still under development may provide even better results in the future.

The storm drone created by the team weighs approximately 55 pounds and may cost from $10,000 to $100,000. The team has also proposed ‘dropsondes’ as another method for data collection. The drone will be equipped with several sensors. It will then fly to different altitudes and drop the sensors. The sensors will parachute to the ground collecting data of the vertical column of a storm. All this data can then be fed into deep machine learning and AI systems to create accurate models of tornadoes and make better predictions.

Storm drones have a crucial advantage of control. Unlike weather balloons, drones can be flown at low altitudes as well as higher levels. Weather balloons are difficult to control and are affected by high wind speeds which may blow the balloon away from the target area. Furthermore, a storm drone can be deployed in a violent storm at a fraction of the cost and also eliminates the need for a human pilot to sit in the drone and fly it.

Conclusion

With the increasing regulation and inclusion of drones into commercial applications and recently into weather forecasting, traditional forecast systems may become obsolete. The majority of the storms are generally formed in the lower levels of the atmosphere (~6,000ft) whereas weather balloons fly at 30,000ft making it infeasible for data collection. Apart from weather forecasts, storm drones would even benefit commercial drone delivery services. With better forecasts, drone delivery can be planned and executed more efficiently.

Write or Die: Is This the Tool That Finally Conquers Your Procrastination?

Do you love writing but find it hard to be productive when working on your book? Have you tried the Write or Die app to help you stay focused?

Write or Die is a writing app that uses various tools to keep you focused and productive during timed writing sessions.

Not everyone loves restrictions when working on a book, but those who do often find the accountability factor a game changer to actually reaching their word count.

If this is you, but you haven’t found the perfect tool to help with your procrastination pitfalls, Write or Die might be the answer.

It was for me, which I’ll explain more in this post.

How Write or Die Made My Writing Time More Productive

I’ll be the first to confess that I have problems with procrastination.

It’s much easier to dream and think about all the amazing, brilliant things you want to write than actually writing them.

These days, with the majority of writing done on a computer screen, there’s so much distraction readily at hand. Even as I type up this article, I feel the need to check social media, read a blog, or re-watch that one video I found of a clip from a Japanese stage musical. The one with delinquent teenagers with a really cool pop-and-lock routine.

The fact that I’ve already done all those things less than an hour ago doesn’t matter. Distraction reigns supreme.

Giving into distraction is easy because there are no consequences. Most of us are not full time paid writers, and getting words written comes down to our ability to discipline ourselves.

No one’s going to scold us for watching a video every fifty words, or losing interest and putting our stories off until tomorrow because we’re “just not feeling it today.” Without consequences, we have no pressure to write, no matter how well-meaning our intentions. This is where the Write or Die app comes in.

Before we get started, I want to throw in there that I wasn’t paid for this review. This is a tool that has benefited me and may or may not benefit you.

When we talk about writing productivity, I’m a big believer in having a “system” — a set of tools and methods that work together to get your writing done and can be reused from one story or book to the next.

Write or Die is part of my system, and I’m writing this post because I think it could benefit your writing process, too. Read on to find if it could become part of yours.

Write or Die Review: What’s Inside

Write or Die can be found at . The tool is simple to use and relatively intuitive.

To the left, you can set your own session goals, such as how long to write, how many words you want to write in that time, and the amount of leeway you want to give yourself when you start to slow down.

To the right, you can find a record of words you’ve written over time, the amount of time you’ve spent writing, and the number of times you’ve received your consequence.

The consequences you receive can be set to positive or negative. The free default consequence is the screen turning red while the app screams at you like a runaway freight train, which I find quite effective on its own.

Lastly, if you need that extra motivation, turn on Kamikaze mode with the big red button. Once activated, Kamikaze mode will begin to delete your writing if you stop typing past your pre-set grace period.

If that doesn’t keep you moving, nothing will.

Write or Die Pricing

The web app itself is free to use (a big advantage over a lot of tools out there).

It’s worth pointing out that the app is still in continuous development and some of the features, such as different types of positive and negative audio and visual consequences are only available in the paid option.

Luckily the price tag is fairly low, with PC and Mac versions at ten dollars and the iOS version at an extremely reasonable one dollar.

How I Make Write or Die Work for Me

Every day, when it comes time to write, I first set up my favorite “background noise.” For many people this may be soothing music, a particular playlist of songs, or some kind of white or brown noise.

For me, this is most likely a TLC reality show. My current favorite is “600lb Life.”

Once I get comfortable, I open Write or Die and set up a session.

After some experimenting, I’ve found that my best “sprint” is fifteen minutes long, with a goal of six-hundred words, which is a number I can hit a little more often than not.

Being a visual person, I like having a live clock and word count in front of me. Though evading punishment is definitely a drive, I enjoy watching the clock tick down as the word count increases, and push myself to pick up speed when the latter falls behind the former.

Once the time is done, I copy and paste what I’ve written into my main Google drive document.

On an average day, I can net about 1–2K words over two or three sessions. On an extra good day, I can get five or six sessions in and write over 3K words. No matter how many times I hear it, that freight train screaming at me through headphones still never fails to snap me out of any distraction.

I’ve tried a lot of motivation apps for writing over the years, and nothing has consistently kept me on track like Write or Die.

Sometimes all it takes to reach your is something that holds you accountable, that pulls you back to the page, like this app can do.

The Write or Die App has become a consistent part of some writer’s systems. It might keep you focused and productive in a way procrastination never let you write before.

Why Write or Die May Not Be the Tool for You

While I’m a big fan of the tool, I have to be honest that it may not be for everyone. Here are a few reasons this app may not work for you:

1. Consequences don’t work for everyone

The screeching noise that works as the app ‘s default can be jarring for a lot of people, and the reward noises may become annoyances.

While it works as motivation for me, the principle that the app operates under may become a distraction itself to some people.

So, if you’re the kind of writer who prefers to work in silence than with sound signals, you’ll probably prefer a different form of writing accountability.

2. Pressure might stifle creativity

In an effort to avoid consequences, you may find yourself typing nonsense to avoid the unpleasantness that may occur.

These days, I usually follow a fairly detailed book plan, so even under pressure, I know what part and scene I need to be working on. But if you’re a pantser, you may find yourself panicked and uncreative as the clock ticks down.

Some people thrive on pressure, but if pressure makes you anxious instead of productive, allot yourself longer chunks of time. But make sure you are disciplined when working in this time frame (I recommend turning off your internet).

3. Associating writing with punishment can be unpleasant

The fact is, writing is supposed to be a pleasant experience. Why write if it doesn’t make you happy?

If you start to associate your writing with unpleasant stimuli and begin to dread it, then the whole purpose of the app is defeated.

Here’s what I recommend: Give the Write or Die app a try. If you walk away from the session feeling exhilarated and proud of your productivity, do it again the following day! If you walk away feeling disappointed in yourself, look for alternative forms of accountability to overcome your procrastination.

Tools Like the Write or Die App Can Keep You Motivated (and Productive)

The Write or Die app is a unique approach to keeping writers focused and motivated during their writing sessions. With sensory tools like sound signals and visuals like clocks that tick down the time set for your writing session, you could be inspired to write with concentration.

Writing the first or even second draft of your book doesn’t need to be a perfect manuscript. If anything, worrying about trying to make each writing session and the work completed during it perfect will probably damage your productivity and confidence more than anything.

Giving apps like the Write or Die a chance won’t hurt you in the long run. And if anything, you might discover that it’s the perfect book to get you to write your story to the end.

And if it’s not? There are other forms of accountability you can use to keep you focused while writing. If this is you, you might be interested in checking out some of these other posts on how to be a productive writer:

But for me, I absolutely adore Write or Die.

It’s gotten me through numerous bouts of and kept me on track when deadlines approached. Even if you have doubts about whether it would work for you, I highly recommend at least giving it a shot.

It just might be the thing that finally beats your procrastination demon.

Have you tried Write or Die and liked it? Or do you have another writing app you prefer? Let us know in the .

PRACTICE

Give the Write or Die app a try! Download the app and set your timer for . If you need a prompt for a practice writing session, consider one of these ideas:

 • Crime Scene: A detective shows up to investigate the scene of a dead man but no murder weapon.
 • Love Scene: A new girl comes to school and steals the attention (and heart) of the most popular girl in school.
 • Coming of Age: A small town teenage boy catches his dad with another woman when he skips basketball practice.

Write fast so your words don’t get deleted! When you’re done, post your writing practice in , and don’t forget to leave feedback for your fellow writers.

Survey: 80% of Freelance Writers are Concerned about The PRO Act Affecting Their Ability to Work

An important piece of legislation is set to hit the U.S. House floor this week, and if passed, it could turn the world of freelancing upside down.

The PRO Act, or the , is a bill that is largely focused on empowering workers to better organize and unionize. But while the aim of the act is to provide more protection for workers, it also poses some serious potential problems — most notably, potentially eliminating many forms of freelancing and independent contracting.

With as many as freelancer jobs at stake, we wanted to see how current freelance writers felt about this controversial bill. The results were quite clear — most freelancers are quite concerned and fearful that their livelihoods are at risk.

The PRO Act & Freelancing Explained

How does the PRO Act threaten freelance writers and other independent contractors?

It’s all about redefining who is classified as an employee and who isn’t.

Using the “ABC Test,” the legislation would reclassify many current freelancers as employees, which would make it impossible for most freelance writers to continue to work in their current manner. Companies would be forced to hire writers as employees, providing all the benefits like insurance and vacation time that comes with doing so, which undoubtedly they would just choose not to do (and likely couldn’t afford to do either). Not to mention, freelancers don’t want to be their clients’ employees for the most part (more on that in the survey results section later on).

According to the guidelines set forth in the “ABC Test,” a worker must be classified as an employee unless he or she meets all three of the following requirements:

“(A) the individual is free from control and direction in connection with the performance of the service, both under the contract for the performance of service and in fact; (B) the service is performed outside the usual course of the business of the employer; and © the individual is customarily engaged in an independently established trade, occupation, profession, or business of the same nature as that involved in the service performed.”

As we explained (check it out for a lot more info about this bill), the “B” part of the test is the key issue for many writers.

“Point ‘B’ of the ABC Test poses a barrier to any freelancer writing for a publication. Articles are the core, ‘usual’ business of that employer. If you’re writing articles for them as a freelancer, you flunk the ABC Test,” our founder Carol Tice explained.

And no, incorporating your freelance business as an LLC or corporation won’t get you around these restrictions, says Kim Kavin, a longtime freelance journalist and a co-founder of the activist group .

A similar law, AB 5, went into effect in California in 2020. The law imposed the ABC Test in all areas, but it provided some minor exceptions for freelance writers, allowing them to submit up to 35 articles per client per year. But even those exceptions weren’t enough as freelance writers can hit those caps pretty quickly depending on the type of work they do.

As a result, some freelancers left the state after the law was passed and some major publications simply altogether. Eventually, the state’s lawmakers were forced to amend AB 5 to create more exceptions that would allow freelance writers to continue working.

Unfortunately, the national version of this bill currently doesn’t offer these exceptions for freelancers, and if the PRO Act is passed in its present form, there will be nowhere for freelancers to run.

The Survey

We partnered with the data analysis team at to conduct an online survey of 690 current male and female US full-time freelance writers from the time period of March 4–7, 2021. Of those surveyed, about 32% have been freelancing for 3–5 years, 21% for 10+ years, 21% for 1–2 years, 13% for 6–9 years, and 13% for less than a year.

Our aim with the survey was to find out what freelancers knew about the PRO Act and their thoughts about the proposed legislation.

We asked a number of questions to determine how freelancers felt about the PRO Act, and the results are compiled below.

Notable Findings

4 out of 5 freelance writers expressed concern about the PRO Act potentially limiting their ability to continue freelancing.

40.3% of respondents said they were “very concerned” about the legislation while another 39.6% indicated they were at least “somewhat concerned”.

Understandably, many freelance writers are scared that they won’t be able to continue doing what they love to do…and what they do to make a living and put food on their tables. As Erica Jedynak, director of economic opportunity at Stand Together, said in a , this proposed legislation “threaten[s] to undermine this entrepreneurialism by imposing requirements that would severely limit peoples’ ability to work as independent contractors.”

58% of freelancers believe the PRO Act could negatively impact their livelihood.

The majority of freelance writers think the legislation could cause their business to suffer financially if it is passed in its current form.

If the PRO Act passes in its current form, many freelance writers would be forced to reassess exactly what it is they do for a living and will no longer be able to as they do now. As Jedynak explained, the policy would likely “lead to fewer jobs and less income for struggling Americans.”

Most freelance writers believe lawmakers don’t know enough about freelancing to sensibly regulate it.

2/3 of respondents doubted that those in Congress truly understand the freelancing business.

Freelancers believe federal lawmakers lack a fundamental understanding of how the industry works, and as a result, legislation that might have been created with good intentions could potentially do serious harm to tens of millions of professionals.

Over half of freelance writers currently do not support the PRO Act.

Only 22% of current freelancers support the PRO Act.

While many support the bill’s aims to provide more protection for workers, the severe collateral damage it may cause to freelancers makes it impossible for most independent contractors to support in its current form. Perhaps if some exceptions were added to protect freelance writers from this legislation, the bill would have more support from the industry.

The vast majority freelance writers value their ‘independent contractor’ status and don’t want to be someone’s employee.

75% of those surveyed said their status as a freelancer is “very important” to them, while 73% also commented they’d rather be a contractor than an employee.

For many, the ‘free’ in ‘freelancing’ is short for ‘freedom’. By and large, freelancers have little interest in taking on a traditional full-time job. Instead, they prefer the entrepreneurial lifestyle of being their own boss and building up their business. The PRO Act threatens to eliminate this freedom by reclassifying independent contractors as employees of their clients.

Methodology & Other Details

The survey took place from March 4–7, 2021 and only US respondents were allowed to participate. Participant source was a mix of Amazon Mechanical Turk (freelance writers only with a 95% or higher approval rating) and freelance writer email lists. Participants that completed the survey in less than 30 seconds were removed prior to analysis to exclude anyone who did not read the questions carefully, leaving a final total sample size of 690 US freelance writers.

Confidence Level: 95%, 4% margin of error

Latest 1.9 Trillion $ Biden Spending Plan

The latest $1.9 trillion omnibus spending bill pending in Congress is in addition to last year’s $3.4 trillion COVID-related health and economic stimulus spending bills. Estimates of this new massive bailout put the actual appropriation of taxpayer funding related to health costs at a meaningless nine percent of the total new bloat.

What will we get for the $1.9 trillion in new deficit spending? This is all nothing more than a crafty direct federal taxpayer subvention to blue states and large urban corridors that otherwise could never justify any other state’s taxpayer bailout for their years of irresponsible, profligate government waste.

Take for example California, whose commanding government employee unions control every facet of that state’s budget allocations and whose public pension plans, the most generous in the nation, now demand extraordinary funding at all levels of government. This political turkey has now come home to roost.

But California, like New York and Illinois, have another big problem. Their state’s productive classes — you know, the people who actually create the wealth and economic vitality that permit such largess — are now leaving those states in droves rendering enormous potential tax deficits in their wake. What to do?

Call in the calvary — or in this case, “F-Troop”. Dr. Fauci, the goofy corporal of functional health bureaucrats, has dutifully continued his Lockdown Fears Tour sufficient to permit his enablers in Washington D.C. to craft a wildly off-the-reservation so-called stimulus spending proposal designed to transfer the wealth of responsible working states to cover the big government malfeasance of the irresponsible ones.

If you still wonder why states like California, New York, and Illinois continue on a path of lockdowns despite a year’s worth of health data verifying the converse, one need only look only at Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus proposal to understand the want of blue states to keep their citizens restricted, frustrated and on the dole.

After a full year of governments at all levels first began shutting down our economies for “30 days to slow the virus spread”, only the bluest of states continue to restrict their population’s ability to earn a living. And despite sound research showing the counterproductive health consequences of lockdowns, those blue state’s motivations for continuing their restrictive edicts are becoming ever more evident.

There is a growing, observable contrast developing in the country between the positive health outcomes in states which have been working and re-opening their economies and the coastal deep blue states who remain under strict lockdowns. Those who continue to remain closed for business are being exposed as having unnecessarily done more harm to their citizenry than the virus.

In fact, once you understand the true nature of the $1.9 trillion proposal — to channel the nation’s tax dollars to Democrat-controlled blue states and left-wing institutions — you will begin to get a handle on the immoral overreach that defines this stimulus plan and the corrupt manner in which they continue to trade on public fear to maintain the health lie undergirding this preposterous debt-busting pork-barrel bill.

The last time Democrats controlled both the White House and both houses of Congress, in 2009, there was a strong political current to overspend on bailouts to address the recession and credit crisis. Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 — signed 12 years ago this month — was a $787 billion 2-year program to stimulate the economy, but did so in a mostly uniform manner across the states. Besides the huge Wall Street and banking liquidity portion, it was not a strictly partisan formulation.

The same cannot be said of this Biden $1.9 trillion boondoggle. While it is couched in terms of health care prevention and jobless recovery, only a very tiny percentage of the spending is actually health-related. The overwhelming portion of the spending is for blue coastal urban states and left-wing welfare institutions and public-employee organized labor unions.

Most of the tax dollars are actually funneled to California, New York, and Illinois through crude metrics based on unemployment and other coastal urban cost drivers. The lockdown states whose economies are moribund due to leftist government edicts are the winners and those states who have been responsibly working and open are being told to foot the bill.

This so-called stimulus plan — simply put — directly rewards states that performed dismally and corruptibly over the past year, and punishes those states who were led responsibly and are working and open for business.

That’s about as un-American a concept as can ever be devised.

USA Streets Descend Into Chaos As Criminals Brazenly Hunt For New Victims In Broad Daylight

The thin veneer of civilization that we all take for granted on a daily basis is steadily disappearing all around us. As I write this article, hordes of criminal predators are roaming the streets of major U.S. cities searching for their next victims. Even when crime rates were high in the 1970s and 1980s, most of the time you would be okay as long as you were inside by nightfall. But in 2021, criminals are so unconcerned about the police that they are brazenly committing crimes in broad daylight. When KPIX 5 reporter Don Ford went to do a report on the horrible crime wave that had hit one troubled section of San Francisco, …

On Wednesday afternoon, the smash-and-grabs turned into armed robbery. KPIX 5 reporter and again on Wednesday, and was preparing to interview nearby homeowners when a white luxury sedan with four men inside pulled up.

This happened right in the middle of the day. A vehicle pulled up to where Ford was conducting an interview, three criminals jumped out, and one of them put a Glock …

“The car came up here while we were about to do an interview, three guys jumped out,” said Ford. “One had a gun and put in my face and said, ‘We’re taking the camera.’”

The whole encounter with a Glock in his face took less than a minute. “My whole thought at the moment was be calm. Let’s not get this guy excited. He’s got the gun. I don’t. So you take you the camera. It’s yours Buddy.”

Since this is a high profile case, I am sure that the overwhelmed police in San Francisco will “look into” this incident.

But of course there are thousands of other crimes being committed in San Francisco on a daily basis, and the police are never able to solve most of those either.

Brazen daylight crimes are being committed on the other side of the country as well. For example, two criminal predators recently attacked a 61-year-old man on a Bronx sidewalk, and video footage shows that bystanders just kept …

Police released a shocking video showing a man being attacked and robbed in the middle of the day on a sidewalk. People are seen walking by the entire time.

The says it happened just before 2 p.m. on Monday on White Plains Rd. in the section.

Old people are being targeted because they are easy prey.

In this instance, what the two criminals were really after …

Two men walked up to the 61-year-old man and demanded cash.

One of them pushed the victim and knocked him to the ground. The other man stomped on his face. Both men searched the victim’s pockets, punched the victim in the head, and stole $817 before taking off.

As crime rates have soared, New York and other big cities have slashed police budgets.

Needless to say, that has not worked out very well. Sadly, the truth is that the police do not control the streets of many U.S. cities at this point.

In New York, the spike in crime has been unprecedented. Just check out …

New York City in 2020 experienced an unprecedented one-year increase in homicides and shootings. Through December 27, 2020, the number of murders was up 41 percent from 2019 and 53 percent from 2018. Shooting victims were up 103 percent from 2019 and 109 percent from 2018; shooting incidents rose 97 percent and 104 percent. In gang-ridden precincts, the spike was even more startling. In Brooklyn’s Brownsville and Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhoods, there were 170 percent more shooting victims in 2020 than in 2019 and 151 percent more shooting incidents. Murder was up 94 percent in these parts of Brooklyn.

Gangs have such free reign in the streets that they have begun “tagging” thousands of buildings in NYC in order to show their domination of certain areas.

On Wednesday, the NYPD announced a in an attempt to do something about all of the graffiti…

New York City has been blighted by graffiti leaving some areas of the Big Apple ‘looking like war zones’ reminiscent of the 1970s and 1980s, leading to a barrage of vandalism complaints.

As part of a major clean-up operation announced on Wednesday, NYPD officers will examine graffiti tags for clues about gang activity in the city after the department said it had received over 6,000 complaints in 2020 alone.

Of course it is a whole lot easier to spray on graffiti than it is to remove it, and unless the NYPD starts arresting people they are going to be fighting a losing battle.

Unfortunately, prosecutors are going soft on crime all over the nation. For example, dozens of violent terrorists that have been involved in the rioting, looting and arson in downtown Portland …

Federal prosecutors have dismissed more than one-third of cases stemming from last summer’s violent protests in downtown Portland, when protesters clashed with federal agents. KGW reviewed federal court records and found 31 of the 90 protest cases have been dismissed by the U.S. Department of Justice, including a mix of misdemeanor and felony charges.

Some of the most serious charges dropped include four defendants charged with assaulting a federal officer, which is a felony. More than half of the dropped charges were “dismissed with prejudice,” which several former federal prosecutors described as extremely rare. “Dismissed with prejudice” means the case can’t be brought back to court.

I was absolutely stunned when I read that.

Hardly anyone ever gets arrested during the endless violence in Portland anyway, and so it is disheartening to learn that many of those that do actually get arrested end up going free.

And of course most of them will soon be back among the protesters.

As our major cities continue to descend into madness, the that we are witnessing out of our major cities is likely to accelerate even more.

We have entered a period of time when civil unrest is going to be a permanent part of our lives, and what we have experienced so far .

As economic conditions continue to deteriorate, our young people are going to become even more frustrated and even more desperate.

As I have always said, desperate people do desperate things, and now horrific crimes are regularly happening in broad daylight all over the country.

Bare metal servers provisioning software

I am searching for a not very complicated system for provisioning bare metal servers (mostly Supermicro).

The steps for the new server deployment at the moment are:

Add server to a bootstrap network segment
Install base OS on the new server (Ubuntu)
Make some tweaks via ansible (add user/keys, some packages, iptables rules, etc)
Move server to the prod network segment and transfer to app admins.

Items 1,3,4 already automated with Ansible, now time to OS install process.

I’m looking to , but it looks some overkill for my purpose.

I would appreciate some advice.

Thanks!
